Briony, who some of you may remember used to assist me at London Fashion Week when I was an ambassador for Mercedes-Benz, and who came on adventures with me – like our trip to Moscow back in 2011, got married last weekend in the most beautiful and romantic service at King’s College Chapel in Cambridge.
The week before saw ten or so of us gather in London for her bridal shower, organised by her bridesmaid Sarah. The main activities were to be a flower arranging class with Bloomon, followed by afternoon tea in the gloriously pink salon at Sketch London. Sarah spent quite some time trying to find a suitable venue in which ten girls could arrange flowers in central London, and drew a blank so I had a brainwave…
I have a large garden in my new home, it’s very central, just by Regent’s Park, and I don’t mind if people spray water all over the ground…so we decided that I would host part one of the Briony’s day. I know just how much B loves pink so I went all out. I ordered a dozen pink helium balloons from Oscar’s Party Den in Swiss Cottage – I should probably have thought a little more about how I would transport them home, two seater sports cars not being ideal for this purpose.
But all was well…
and look! Briony with her balloons! (And Lettice, of course.) Please admire her pink ribbon.
As our afternoon tea reservation was at 1400hrs, I just made light snacks to keep us going – homemade houmus, a fruit plate and mini cheese quiches.
We drank Lauren-Perrier Rose – of course, and pink lemonade. (I do like to get behind a theme!)

After our class was finished, we filled our vases with water and left the flowers in the cool in my sitting room, whilst we headed off to walk through Regent’s Park to Mayfair and tea at Sketch. Sarah had created an entire Bridal Shower scavenger hunt which we had to complete en route. (That’s Pat, above, looking slightly bemused by the list.)
My group, Fiona, Pat and me failed to get much of it done, but we did tick off the photo of someone looking bridal on public transport – if wearing a white dress at the entrance to the tube counts? We also found a man wearing the same colour pants at Helen – my next door neighbour, who was somewhat disconcerted to be surrounded by a gaggle of slightly tipsy pink-clad girls demanding to know what underwear he had one. Poor man.
I’m wearing a pretty white linen dress, which I was given by Thought, a sustainable fashion company. It’s a great price at £69.
Then it was time for a quite spectacular tea at Sketch.
We all headed back to Primrose Hill after to collect everyone’s flowers and for B to take her balloons back to Cambridge.
One very, very exhausted sausage dog at the end of the day.
With enormous thanks to Bloomon for the flower arranging,
for Sketch for fitting us all in, and to Sarah for all the ninja organising.
